Fluctum

Bullion and precious-metal pricing that tracks live spot markets in real time — storefront prices update continuously and lock at checkout, so buyer and seller are never exposed to a stale quote. The same mechanism works for any product whose price is derived from a frequently changing reference rate.

Who it is for

Sellers of precious metals and bullion, and any store where the selling price derives from a frequently changing reference rate rather than a fixed catalogue price.

The problem it solves

A catalogue price cannot represent a product priced off a live market rate. Showing a price that is minutes old creates a real loss, and a checkout that silently completes at a quote that has since moved creates a dispute. The store needs prices that stay current and an explicit decision about which price an order was placed at.

How it works

  1. A scheduled job fetches spot prices from a provider on a configurable interval and writes them to the plugin's own tables.

  2. Each update is broadcast over server-sent events, so storefront and admin views reflect the new price without polling.

  3. Prices are never written into Medusa's price tables. The storefront computes the displayed price from the stored spot price and the variant's pricing rule, which keeps Medusa's catalogue intact.

  4. Entering checkout creates a price lock with a configurable lifetime; the checkout reuses a valid lock instead of creating a new one.

  5. Before the order completes, the lock is validated — a missing or expired lock stops the order rather than letting it through at the wrong price.

What it does

  • Spot prices fetched from a provider on a configurable interval
  • Prices persisted and broadcast to storefront and admin over server-sent events
  • Pricing rules attached to product variants through a Medusa module link
  • Final price computed from the spot price and the variant's pricing rule
  • Price locks created on entry to checkout and reused while still valid
  • Checkout validation that rejects a missing or expired price lock
  • Configurable materials, fetch interval, and lock duration
  • Multi-currency conversion
  • Admin interface for managing rules and watching live prices
  • A random provider for local development when no market-data key is configured

Where it fits

  • A bullion dealer whose gold and silver products must track the spot market
  • A store where premiums are expressed as a formula over a reference rate rather than a fixed markup
  • A team that needs to show exactly which reference price an order was placed against
